One laptop belonged to work. The other held everything personal. Both needed the same monitor, keyboard, charger space, and small desk.
The daily frustration was not dramatic. It was a repeated five-minute shuffle: unplugging leads, moving one device aside, finding the right charger, and rebuilding the same arrangement every evening.
Storage and use needed different positions
A closed laptop did not need to occupy the same horizontal space as the active one. Giving the inactive device an upright storage position freed part of the desk without hiding the laptop in a drawer.
The cables needed destinations
Loose USB-C and charging leads kept falling behind the desk because they had no resting place. A small cable dock did not conceal the entire system; it simply kept the frequently used ends where the hand expected them.
The better setup was the one that switched easily
A beautiful desk that takes ten minutes to rebuild will not stay beautiful for long. The more useful goal was a setup that could change roles with three actions: store one laptop, place the other, connect the leads.
